🚨 Home safe homecoming

Good morning, Geauga County. When 27 Cleveland teens left for an educational trip to Israel, none imagined their journey would include sheltering from missile attacks and a complex evacuation through three countries. For Ezra Epstein, the harrowing experience—which included removing Jewish symbols during border crossings—ironically strengthened his connection to his Jewish identity. The Jewish Federation of Cleveland's decisive action made them the only organization in the country to charter an evacuation flight during the conflict.

Relief swept through Lake County yesterday when an 82-year-old man with dementia was found safe after disappearing from his Painesville home in the early morning hours. His recovery highlights how crucial community vigilance becomes when vulnerable seniors go missing. Meanwhile, Ohio's financial landscape continues evolving with Governor DeWine's approval of a two-year budget that charts a course toward a 2.75% flat income tax by 2026—though several controversial provisions didn't survive his veto pen.

🛡️ Teen's Israel trip turned into a harrowing escape amid conflict. Ezra Epstein and 27 other Cleveland teens were on an educational program in Jerusalem when Iran launched missile attacks against Israel. The group sheltered in underground safe rooms before embarking on a complex evacuation route through Jordan, Cyprus, and Greece to return home. Despite being instructed to remove Jewish symbols during their border crossing and witnessing missiles overhead, Epstein says the experience deepened his connection to his Jewish identity. The Jewish Federation of Cleveland was the only one in the country to charter an evacuation flight during the conflict.

📋 Ohio's new budget brings sweeping changes to state finances. Governor Mike DeWine approved a two-year spending plan that includes a path to a 2.75% flat income tax by 2026. DeWine vetoed several controversial provisions, including restrictions on library materials, election integrity measures, and limits on school levies. In other news, six people were identified in the deadly Howland Township plane crash, including future aviation instructors and YSU supporters.
