Good morning, Geauga County. Democracy is in action across our region today as Lake County voters head to the polls for the May 6 Primary Election. With polling stations like Lake Erie Church of God welcoming residents until 7:30 p.m., there's still time to cast your ballot in races including the six-way contest for Eastlake mayor. The simple act of voting—assisted by dedicated volunteers like Terrance Wardrop—reminds us that our collective voice shapes the community we call home.

Meanwhile, a culinary debate simmers nearby as D'Amico's Pizzeria in Eastlake earns recognition as a hidden gem worth adding to any "best of" list. Their perfectly crafted pepperoni and plain pies are drawing attention from local food critics. In education news, several Ohio districts including nearby Shaker Heights have taken a stand regarding federal DEI certification requirements, potentially risking funding while courts temporarily block enforcement of the controversial measure.

🏫 Ohio schools defy Trump's anti-DEI certification demands. Several districts, including Shaker Heights and Cleveland Heights-University Heights, refused to sign federal documents stating they're not using "illegal DEI practices." Nine districts submitted no certification while seven others submitted alternative or modified documents. Districts refusing to comply risk losing millions in federal funding, though three federal courts have temporarily blocked enforcement. Cleveland Heights-University Heights Superintendent Elizabeth Kirby explained they were uncomfortable signing what they viewed as "an interpretation on a Supreme Court case" rather than just a Title VI compliance statement.

🍕 D'Amico's Pizzeria in Eastlake deserves a spot on any "best of" list. The review by Mark Koestner highlights this hidden gem that serves delicious pizzas including their popular pepperoni and plain options. While the full article was behind a paywall, the introduction suggests Koestner has a weakness for online ranking lists about local food spots. D'Amico's appears to have impressed the reviewer enough to warrant consideration among the top pizzerias in the area.
