Geauga County • March 17, 2025
Good morning, Geauga County. Communities are built on the shoulders of those who serve, and this week we honor Robert Schmunk III, whose 85 years of life enriched Chester Township through his work at Rimes Trucking, part-time police service, and entrepreneurial spirit. His legacy of family devotion and outdoor passion reminds us that extraordinary lives often leave quiet but lasting impressions on the places we call home.
The spirit of service continues as Hiram police officers trade badges for spatulas at their April 5 pancake breakfast fundraiser at Hiram College. The all-you-can-eat event supports the expanded "Shop with a Hero" program, which last year brought holiday joy to 29 children shopping alongside first responders. Meanwhile, the judicial system moves forward as a Chardon resident faces consequences for crimes involving child exploitation materials, with sentencing scheduled for May before Judge Matt Rambo.

Bob is survived by his wife Joanne, two children, three grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren, with the family requesting contributions to Rescue Village in lieu of flowers.
🥞 Hiram police flip pancakes to help kids shop with heroes. The April 5 fundraiser breakfast at Hiram College will collect donations for the Shop with a Hero program, which provides children in need with holiday shopping experiences alongside first responders. Founded in 2011 as "Shop with a Cop," the initiative expanded in 2024 to include firefighters and EMS personnel. Last year, the program brought Christmas joy to 29 children and their families. The all-you-can-eat breakfast will run from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Kennedy Center Dix Dining Hall.
🔍 Chardon man faces 24 months for child pornography crimes. Ken Chuha, 69, pleaded guilty to two counts of illegal use of a minor in nudity-oriented material in Geauga County Court. As part of his plea agreement, prosecutors dismissed several other charges and will recommend residential community control. Chuha will be classified as a Tier I sex offender, requiring 15 years of registration and prohibiting him from living near schools or childcare facilities. His sentencing is scheduled for May 20 before Judge Matt Rambo.
