🧣 Warm hearts, warm hands

Geauga County • February 19, 2025

Good morning, Geauga County. As temperatures dip below freezing, a group of modern-day heroes in blue coats is hitting our streets after dark. The volunteers of Sub Zero Mission aren't just distributing winter gear - they're literally saving lives, having handed out nearly 20,000 items this winter to those experiencing homelessness across Northern Ohio and beyond. It's a powerful reminder that not all heroes wear capes - some wear thermal socks.

While that mission of mercy unfolds across the region, our communities are buzzing with development news. Kirtland's proposed nursing home has residents debating the future of their sewer lines, and over in Shaker Heights, the Van Aken District is preparing for a $62 million transformation that promises to turn a former car dealership into a slice of modern urban living.

Biltmore Healthcare has returned to the city's Planning and Zoning Commission seeking approvals for a new nursing facility. The proposal, which follows earlier presentations in July 2023 and January, has drawn significant attention from local residents. The main point of contention centers around the necessary extension of the city's sanitary sewer lines. The project's fate remains uncertain as officials weigh community concerns against development needs.
