Geauga County • February 18, 2025
Good morning, Geauga County. In the world of retail chess moves, Ferguson's House of Furniture just made a power play worthy of Bobby Fischer, dropping $2.6 million on a massive Boardman property. The 51,000-square-foot space is set to become their third Ohio location, bringing 25 new jobs to the area when it opens this May.
Meanwhile, our local law enforcement had their hands full with some rather creative criminals. While one suspect thought hiding a stolen van's key fob in his shoe was a masterful plan (narrator: it wasn't), another thrill-seeker decided to turn Stillwater Drive into their personal motocross track. Spoiler alert: neither ended well for the perpetrators, though they certainly gave our police officers some memorable stories for their report logs.

🚐 Stolen van chase ends in shoe discovery and arrest. A dramatic hit-and-run incident in Pepper Pike led police to track a stolen Ford Transit Connect van that recklessly crossed Lander Circle's green. Officers found the abandoned van at South Plaza, arresting a 43-year-old Cleveland man at a nearby bus stop who had hidden the van's key fob in his shoe. The suspect, wanted on a parole violation, admitted to driving the stolen vehicle, while his passenger was later apprehended by Beachwood police. The incident began with a crash report from Beachwood around 6 a.m. on February 14.
🏍️ Dirt bike rider's high-speed joyride sparks neighborhood outrage in Ohio. Police confronted the rider who was racing at speeds up to 50 mph on Stillwater Drive in Russell Township. Officers educated the rider about off-road vehicle regulations after receiving complaints from concerned residents. The incident was one of several traffic-related calls that kept local police busy, including reports of an erratic driver and a vehicle blocking a driveway. Officers also assisted with a stuck vehicle and responded to a dog bite report.
The Kenston Bombers soared past Orange 5-3 in a non-league showdown, proving that sometimes the best defense is a good offense. The victory propels the red-hot Bombers to 23-7 on the season, while the Lions settle at a perfectly balanced 11-11 record that would make Thanos proud.
