Olivia Fosson, a Kitts Hill native, received a proclamation making August 12, 2025 "Olivia Fosson Day" in recognition of her achievement. During her visit, Fosson expressed gratitude for her Appalachian roots and her mission to uplift young girls from the region. She will represent Ohio at the Miss America pageant streaming from Orlando on September 7. The commissioners also heard updates on America's 250th birthday celebration plans and recognized Child Support Awareness Month.
🗽 Point Pleasant to honor 9/11 victims with memorial ceremony Thursday. The American Legion-organized event will take place at Riverfront Park starting at 8:30 a.m. on the anniversary of the 2001 attacks that claimed 2,977 lives. Legion Auxiliary President Rebecca Farley will host, with remarks from Commander Steve Dunn and Mayor Amber Tatterson. Mason County Homeland Security Director Jeremy Bryant will deliver the keynote address, followed by breakfast at the American Legion.
✈️ Gallia County Commission greenlights major airport expansion projects. The commission approved two Federal Aviation Administration grant agreements totaling over $327,000 for improvements at the Gallia-Meigs Regional Airport. Projects include expanding the asphalt apron and rehabilitating the terminal apron, with the county providing 5% matching funds from the Airport Authority Fund. Commissioners also approved a significant $217,145 change order for the Green Sewer 2 Project, bringing the total contract to $8.17 million. The airport terminal building project has spent nearly $1 million of its $3.35 million total funding from various sources.
