Gallia County • June 19, 2025
Good morning, Gallia County. Weighing in at a staggering 3,000 pounds and standing 12 feet tall, Ohio's newest roadside attraction has officially put Oak Hill on the map. The world's largest acorn was unveiled last week as part of the village's 150th anniversary celebrations, joining the quirky pantheon of oversized objects that make small-town road trips so memorable. This $30,000 metal homage to the white oak trees that inspired the town's name now stands as a shining example of how public art can celebrate local heritage.
The future looks equally bright for local talent making waves beyond county lines. Three promising educators—Kennedy Shamblin, Jenna Schwall, and Addison Nolan—have secured scholarships to pursue teaching careers, while Point Pleasant's Michelle Maduafokwa will soon represent West Virginia at the prestigious Girls Nation in Washington, D.C. Her selection as an outstanding citizen at Rhododendron Girls State continues our region's tradition of nurturing tomorrow's leaders.

🌰 Ohio village unveils world's largest acorn, weighing nearly 3,000 pounds. The massive 12-foot metal sculpture was installed in Oak Hill's Central Memorial Park on June 14 as part of the town's 150th anniversary celebration. Chamber of Commerce president Kurtis Strickland spearheaded the $30,000 project after being inspired by other "world's largest" attractions during family road trips. The giant acorn honors the white oak trees that gave the village its name and joins Ohio's impressive collection of oversized roadside attractions. It's also part of the Ohio Art Corridor, a public art initiative bringing large-scale sculptures to small Appalachian towns.
