🌧️ Heavy rainfall threatens Timbre Ridge Dam in Lawrence County. The Wayne National Forest is monitoring a slump on the dam face after recent storms. Officials are drawing down the dam pool at 2-3 inches per day to reach the lowest point of the slump for assessment. There are currently no impacts to public safety or wildlife, but authorities have activated the Emergency Action Plan. The Forest is coordinating with local emergency management agencies and will provide updates on their Facebook page.
🎓 Jackson County students shine on Buckeye Hills Career Center honor roll. The third nine-week grading period saw 79 students from Jackson High School, Oak Hill High School, Wellston High School, and Christian Life Academy achieve academic excellence. An impressive 49 students earned straight A's, while 50 maintained A's and B's across their coursework. Jackson High School led with the highest number of honorees, followed by Wellston and Oak Hill. The recognition highlights the strong academic performance of local students in career-technical education programs.
✈️ Gallia County Airport project takes flight with major upgrades. The Gallia County Commission approved two FAA grant applications for improvements at the Gallia-Meigs Regional Airport during their regular session Thursday. One project will expand the terminal apron by 160' x 85', while the other will rehabilitate 4,950 square yards of existing apron. The commission authorized Special Projects Manager Karen Sprague to sign project notices and approved professional service agreements with Delta Airport Consultants. Commissioners also handled routine business including approving a payment resolution for the Green Sewer Phase 2 project.
