Gallia County • April 24, 2025
Good morning, Gallia County. The engines of economic growth are revving up across our region, with Toyota's massive $88 million investment in its West Virginia plant securing nearly 2,000 jobs and advancing hybrid vehicle technology. This industrial powerhouse move comes as Gallipolis itself springs back to life with infrastructure renewal—from water mains to the exciting reopening of the Haskins Park pool after three long years, plus new pickleball courts and a SplashPad on the horizon.
Community spirit flows just as strongly as these infrastructure improvements, evidenced by the Point Pleasant Moose Lodge's generous $1,823 donation to downtown merchants. The funds will nurture ongoing beautification efforts, including recently planted cherry trees that will transform our streets come springtime. It's a timely reminder that whether through corporate investments or local contributions, our region continues to bloom through collaborative efforts.

🏭 Toyota injects $88 million into West Virginia plant for next-gen hybrid tech. The investment will secure nearly 2,000 jobs at the Buffalo facility where production of new hybrid transaxles will begin in 2026. This marks Toyota's sixth generation of hybrid transaxle technology, which transfers power between the engine, electric motor, and wheels in hybrid vehicles. Along with the plant investment, Toyota donated $100,000 to Marshall University's Advanced Manufacturing Center to strengthen workforce development. Toyota has now invested a total of $2.8 billion in its West Virginia operations, the only North American plant producing this complex machinery.
🦌 Moose Lodge gives downtown merchants a $1,823 boost. The Point Pleasant Moose Lodge 731 recently donated funds to help enrich the downtown economy of the West Virginia city. The money will support ongoing projects by the Point Pleasant Downtown Merchants, including recently planted cherry trees. Lodge member Chris Rizer highlighted the merchants' accomplishments as the city continues to grow. The lodge will host upcoming events for Square One on May 3 and the Tu-Endie-Wei Garden on May 15.
🏊 Gallipolis revives community with major infrastructure projects after three years. City Manager John Westfall announced a successful bidder for the long-awaited water main replacement, with project award expected in April. The city pool at Haskins Park is being prepared to reopen this summer after three years of closure, with a new filter system in place and applications being accepted for staff. Additional recreational improvements include pickleball courts expected to be completed by late summer and plans for a new SplashPad potentially starting construction this fall. A contractor has also been selected for the Riverfront Project, with officials awaiting design plans and permits.
