Gallia County • March 28, 2025
Good morning, Gallia County. Pink blossoms are painting a vibrant future for Point Pleasant as 62 newly planted Kwanzan cherry trees begin their spectacular spring display along Main Street. These flowering beauties represent more than just seasonal decoration—they're the foundation of West Virginia's first Cherry Blossom Festival, planned for 2026. The fleeting blooms, lasting just one to two weeks, offer a reminder that sometimes the most beautiful things in life arrive briefly but leave lasting impressions.
The river's rich history flows into a new chapter as military veteran Tom Dunn takes the helm at Point Pleasant's River Museum. His vision for the state-of-the-art facility includes river simulators, an aquarium, and technology that brings regional maritime heritage to life. Meanwhile, local schools are strengthening their athletic foundations with new coaching appointments at River Valley and South Gallia, ensuring student-athletes have strong leadership for upcoming seasons across softball, baseball, track, and volleyball.

🌸 Point Pleasant's cherry trees signal a budding festival future. Last October, the West Virginia city planted 62 Kwanzan cherry trees along Main Street that are now beginning to bloom. Officials hope these vibrant pink blossoms will not only beautify the area but also boost tourism, with plans to launch the state's first Cherry Blossom Festival in 2026. The trees, which typically bloom shortly after Washington D.C.'s famous National Cherry Blossom Festival, represent renewal and hope while offering a fleeting spectacle that lasts only one to two weeks. Similar trees can also be found in Morgantown and Berkeley Springs, adding springtime beauty to those communities.
🏛️ New museum director aims to revitalize Point Pleasant's river heritage.Tom Dunn, a military veteran with a history degree, was appointed director of the Point Pleasant River Museum in January. He envisions the new facility as an educational hub that preserves regional river history while creating engaging experiences for visitors through technology and artifacts. The state-of-the-art museum features river simulators for pilot training, an aquarium, and extensive library, making it one of only 22 such facilities nationwide. Dunn hopes the community will embrace this new chapter while honoring the legacy of the original museum that was destroyed by fire.
