Gallia County • March 24, 2025

Good morning, Gallia County. The future just got a bit brighter for local students as Brad Smith, Marshall University's president and former Silicon Valley CEO, visited Hannan High School with an inspiring message about debt-free education. His "Green and White Day" appearance highlighted the university's Tuition Free WV program and growing opportunities in fields like cybersecurity and aviation – a timely reminder that sometimes the best career paths can lead talented young people back to their Appalachian roots.

Meanwhile, preparation season is in full swing at Gallipolis schools, where the board has assembled its coaching lineup for the coming year. With Noah Vanco joining football and Ashton Webb taking the volleyball helm, student-athletes will have fresh leadership this fall. Across the river, Pleasant Community's senior citizens are getting a different kind of coaching – learning to recognize and avoid the increasingly sophisticated scams targeting their generation, from fake IRS calls to deceptive romance schemes.
