Gallia County • March 19, 2025
Good morning, Gallia County. March 29 marks a long-overdue recognition as Vietnam veterans gather in Gallipolis City Park to receive the honor many were denied 50 years ago. The 11 a.m. ceremony, dedicated to the late Rev. John Jackson, reminds us that while wars may end on paper, their impact on those who served continues for generationsβa truth finally acknowledged through the Vietnam War Veterans Recognition Act of 2017.
Meanwhile, a regional effort to tackle medication safety is gaining momentum as three Ohio counties prepare for their April 26 Drug Take Back event. Having already collected over 1,300 pounds of unwanted medications locally, this initiative offers a crucial service for preventing both environmental contamination and potential misuse. Across the river, Henderson is positioning itself for transformation with newly approved economic development districts designed to accommodate growth from upcoming industrial projects.

π Three Ohio counties unite to safely dispose of unwanted medications. The Drug Take Back event will be held on April 26 from 10am to noon at locations in Gallipolis, Pomeroy, and Jackson. Mirroring the DEA's national program that has collected over 19 million pounds of drugs since 2010, the local events have gathered more than 1,300 pounds in six years. Residents can dispose of prescription medications, over-the-counter products, sharps, and pet medications, helping prevent misuse and environmental contamination. Those unable to attend can use year-round collection bins at county sheriff's offices or request drug deactivation bags.
