⚔️ Showdown at the river

Gallia County • February 27, 2025

Good morning, Gallia County. There's a modern-day David and Goliath story unfolding just across the river in Henderson, where residents are standing their ground against development officials wielding purchase agreements instead of swords. As Mason County's industrial boom approaches, some longtime locals are proving that not everything has a price tag - especially when that price tag comes in under market value.

Speaking of trust being broken, a disturbing case from our own backyard reminds us to be vigilant about our digital privacy. A local phone repair technician's guilty plea on 40 criminal counts serves as a sobering reminder that sometimes the biggest threats to our personal security aren't sophisticated hackers, but rather those we've handed our unlocked devices to for repair.

🏘️ Small West Virginia town fights back as developers buy up homes. In Henderson, Mason County, residents are battling against development officials trying to purchase and demolish their properties for commercial redevelopment. The Mason County Development Authority has already acquired 65% of the town, offering some homeowners below-market prices for their properties. The initiative aims to capitalize on anticipated growth from nearby Nucor Steel and other incoming industries. While some residents have reluctantly sold, others like Sandra Mitchell refuse to leave their lifelong homes for what they consider unfair compensation.
