🌮 Burrito boom

Good morning, Franklin County. The international flavors of Columbus continue to evolve, with Canadian import Barrio Burrito Bar announcing its second location on East Broad Street. The build-your-own concept, which just debuted its first Central Ohio restaurant this summer, joins the city's vibrant food scene at a time when another establishment is making a different choice—upscale steakhouse Smith & Wollensky has reversed course on plans to return to Columbus after closing its Easton location last year.

Meanwhile, a historic moment is being recognized in the Ohio statehouse, where representatives have passed a resolution honoring Pope Leo XIV, the first American pope in the Catholic Church's 2,000-year history. The measure, which passed with near-unanimous support, will be sent to the Vatican along with Ohio's "sincere best wishes" for Cardinal Robert Prevost, who spent much of his career ministering in Peru before his historic elevation.

🥩 Classic steakhouse scraps Columbus comeback plans. Smith & Wollensky, which closed its Easton Town Center location in 2023, has decided against returning to the Columbus market. The upscale restaurant chain had previously announced intentions to reestablish its presence in the city. While the full details are behind a paywall, the article's related links suggest there had been concrete plans for a new location. This represents a reversal of what appears to have been a promised return to the Columbus dining scene.

🙏 Ohio honors America's first Pope in historic resolution. The Ohio House of Representatives passed a measure recognizing Pope Leo XIV, born in Chicago as Cardinal Robert Prevost. Representatives Adam Mathews and Mike Odioso co-sponsored the resolution, which will be sent to the Vatican with "sincere best wishes for the future." Only one representative voted against the measure honoring the historic selection of the first American pope in the Catholic Church's 2,000-year history. Prevost, who spent his career ministering in Peru and leads the Vatican's office of bishops, has brought hope and a sense of unity to Catholics across the nation.
