Good morning, Franklin County. The intersection of Sawmill and Bethel roads became the scene of a dramatic motorcycle accident Saturday night when a rider was thrown from his bike after veering into the grass. Initially in critical condition, the motorcyclist has thankfully been upgraded to stable as police continue investigating what caused the unexpected detour. Meanwhile, Buckeye spirit is spreading across campus as Ohio State's Homecoming Fest moves to the South Oval this Sunday, promising a significantly expanded celebration with everything from food trucks to airbrush t-shirts.

In a sweet bit of state pride news, Ohio lawmakers are working across party lines to give official recognition to a beloved local treat. The bipartisan effort would designate the chocolate-peanut butter buckeye as Ohio's state candy, honoring a confectionery tradition that dates back over a century. Seven state senators have already jumped on board to support this delicious piece of legislation that celebrates a distinctive symbol of Ohio's culinary heritage.

🍬 Ohio lawmakers want buckeyes to be the state's official candy. A bipartisan bill introduced to the Ohio Senate would designate the chocolate and peanut butter confection as Ohio's state candy. Senator Bill DeMora, who sponsored Senate Bill 247, called the treat "more than just a dessert" but a symbol of Ohio's culinary heritage. The buckeye candy has deep roots in the state, dating back over 100 years to the Buckeye Candy Company founded in Brooklyn, Ohio in 1919. Seven state senators from both parties have cosponsored the legislation.
