A staggering 10,000 anime enthusiasts are descending upon our city for Matsuricon's 20th anniversary, celebrating how "nerd culture" has evolved from schoolyard mockery into mainstream entertainment. Meanwhile, just a short drive away in Waynesville, the Ohio Renaissance Festival launches its 36th season, transforming 35 acres into a vibrant 16th-century English village complete with jousting knights and turkey legs the size of your forearm.

Beyond these immersive escapes, Columbus CEO has recognized 81 local companies as Top Workplaces for 2025, honoring organizations that have created exceptional environments for their employees. Matsuricon celebrates its 20th year with a 13% increase in ticket sales, offering celebrity meet-and-greets, cosplaying, and Japanese weaponry demonstrations without the long lines of larger conventions. Spokesperson Lindsay Parker notes how "nerd culture" has evolved from a source of bullying into mainstream entertainment, creating a safe space for fans to embrace their passions. Columbus has become a thriving hub for geeky gatherings, including Origins Game Fair, Buckeye Comic Cons, and the newer GalaxyCon.

🏰 Medieval magic returns to Ohio this weekend with a massive renaissance fair. The Ohio Renaissance Festival kicks off its 36th season in Waynesville, drawing over 200,000 enthusiasts to its sprawling 35-acre village themed around 16th-century England. Visitors can enjoy jousting tournaments, theatrical performances, and browse more than 175 shops selling everything from chain mail to handblown glass. Beyond the iconic turkey legs, the festival offers diverse food options including barbecue, bread bowls, and alcoholic beverages. Each weekend through October 26 features unique themes, though attendees should prepare for limited cell service at this immersive historical experience.

🏆 Columbus CEO celebrates workplace excellence with 81 top companies. The publication hosted its 13th annual Top Workplaces awards ceremony at COSI on April 16, 2025, with over 300 attendees.
