Good morning, Franklin County. The curtain rises on Columbus's thriving film scene this weekend as Cinema Columbus returns for its fourth year, recently crowned the country's best film festival by USA Today readers. With over 50 films screening across seven local theaters, including the opening feature "Down to the Felt" by Columbus filmmaker Jon Osbeck, this celebration arrives at a crucial time when many American cities have lost their independent theaters altogether.

The creative renaissance extends beyond festivals, with local filmmakers Mags Chamberlain and Jenna Anderson reconnecting with their artistic purpose through mental health storytelling. Their short film "I Had a Really Good Day" authentically portrays high-functioning depression through a young Black woman's experience. Meanwhile, the historic Broadwin building on the Near East Side has found a new owner for just over $1 million, potentially ending years of failed revival attempts and breathing new life into the neighborhood.

🎬 Columbus filmmakers rediscover their creative passion through mental health storytelling. Mags Chamberlain and Jenna Anderson founded waxpoet to highlight overlooked communities, but commercial work initially sidelined their artistic vision. Their new short film "I Had a Really Good Day" follows a young Black woman navigating high-functioning depression, portrayed through intimate cinematography and sound design. The film marks their return to their original mission of authentic representation, with Anderson noting it depicts "the kind of depression where you put your dishes away and go out, but you're still sad." Now reconnected with their purpose, the duo is already developing their next project about trans women on a Midwest road trip.

⚾ Baseball Scoreboard

The Olentangy Braves made a statement Tuesday, overwhelming Dublin Jerome 9-1 in a lopsided league matchup that left the Celtics searching for answers. The win improves the Braves to 9-6 while Jerome falls to a troubling 4-11, with no relief in sight as they prepare to face Thomas Worthington next. If the Celtics' season were a baseball, it would be sailing well outside the strike zone right now.
