Franklin County • April 1, 2025
Good morning, Franklin County. Luxury real estate is making headlines as a stunning Upper Arlington property just claimed the title of Columbus's priciest home at $3.3 million. February's top 25 sales reveal a flourishing high-end market, with eleven homes crossing the $1.5 million threshold across Franklin, Delaware, and Licking counties. Upper Arlington and New Albany continue to dominate the luxury landscape, suggesting that premium properties remain in high demand despite economic fluctuations.
While some residents are investing in multi-million dollar homes, others are adjusting to practical changes. Starting April 1, commuters will need alternative routes when the Gantz Road bridge over I-270 closes for a four-month rehabilitation project. And reaching for your wallet just got a bit more painful as Franklin County's sales tax jumped to 8% on Tuesday, tying with Cuyahoga County for Ohio's highest rate. The 0.5% increase, funding voter-approved LinkUs projects, adds $175 to a $35,000 vehicle purchase.

🏠 Upper Arlington home tops Columbus sales at $3.3 million. The list of February 2025's top 25 home sales shows luxury properties commanding premium prices across Columbus and surrounding counties. Upper Arlington and New Albany dominated the high-end market with multiple properties selling above $1.5 million. The data, compiled from Franklin, Delaware and Licking county auditor offices, reveals a robust luxury real estate market with eleven homes selling for $1.5 million or more.
🚧 Grove City bridge closure will disrupt commuters for four months. Starting April 1, the Gantz Road bridge over Interstate 270 will shut down for a 120-day rehabilitation project. The Ohio Department of Transportation plans to replace the bridge deck, repair guardrails, and add a sidewalk/shared-use path. Drivers can detour using Home Road to U.S. 62 to Frank Road to Gantz Road. Similar rehabilitation work is also planned for the McComb Road and Trabue Road bridges over I-270.
💰 Franklin County's sales tax jumps to 8%, highest in Ohio. The increase from 7.5% began Tuesday to fund LinkUs projects that voters approved in November. Franklin County now ties with Cuyahoga County for the state's highest rate, with Ohio's base rate at 5.75% plus local additions. The tax hike applies across COTA's service area, including parts of neighboring counties. While a 0.5% increase might seem small, it adds $175 to a $35,000 vehicle purchase.
