Fayette County • October 23, 2025
Good morning, Fayette County. A silent, deadly threat is making an alarming comeback across Ohio. Carfentanil—a synthetic opioid 100 times more potent than fentanyl—has surged from just 40 cases in all of 2024 to nearly 200 in the first nine months of 2025. As this invisible danger spreads from urban centers into rural communities, officials are now also tracking a rare new compound called cychlorphine, recently identified at an overdose scene in Butler County.
Meanwhile, Washington Court House streets are a bit safer following a week of enforcement that netted dozens of citations for everything from tinted windows to more serious offenses. And for those seeking something more appetizing than traffic news, Mediterranean favorite Shawerma Bite is expanding its build-your-own concept to Easton. The restaurant's third Central Ohio location will continue featuring their signature 24-hour marinated meats prepared on vertical ovens, alongside traditional favorites like falafel and house-made sauces.

💉 Deadly carfentanil makes alarming comeback across Ohio. Ohio officials are warning about a significant uptick in seizures of carfentanil, a synthetic opioid 100 times more potent than fentanyl. Through the first three quarters of 2025, the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation identified carfentanil in 199 drug samples across 46 counties, compared to just 40 cases in all of 2024. Central and northwestern regions show the highest prevalence, with rural communities increasingly affected. Adding to concerns, authorities recently identified a rare new opioid compound called N-propionitrile chlorphine (cychlorphine) at an overdose scene in Butler County.
