Good morning, Fayette County. The changing of seasons brings more than just autumn leaves to our community. As Highland County prepares for a judicial transition with Judge Rocky Coss's upcoming retirement, attorney John W. Judkins has stepped forward to continue the legacy of fair and dignified justice. The McClain High School graduate's deep roots and extensive legal background speak to his commitment to Highland County—much like the profound community impact of Russell Johnson, the 87-year-old shepherd who spent decades mentoring young people in the fine art of sheep showing before his recent passing.

Fall's crisp air is beckoning families to embrace harvest traditions at the numerous farms surrounding Columbus. From pumpkin patches at Circle S Farms to the sunflower fields at Lohstroh Family Farms, these seasonal destinations offer perfect weekend adventures. With over 30 fall-themed activities at Pigeon Roost Farm alone, there's no shortage of hayrides, corn mazes and apple picking opportunities to create those quintessential autumn memories while the weather cooperates.

🐑 A Highland County shepherd leaves a legacy of mentorship. Russell Johnson, 87, of Hillsboro, passed away on August 25, 2025, just months after his wife Dorothy with whom he shared 62 years of marriage. As a dedicated sheep enthusiast, Russ traveled across the country exhibiting sheep and found joy in training children to groom and show animals. His community service included over 50 years on the Highland County Fair Board and service as a Trustee on the New Market Baptist Cemetery Board. A graveside service will be held Saturday, August 30, with the family requesting memorial contributions to the Highland County Senior Fair Board.
