Fayette County • July 16, 2025
Good morning, Fayette County. Geological boundaries often mark life's transitions, as Jim Thompson's family discovered in 1962 when they pulled their overloaded U-Haul across Ohio's Terminal Moraine. Their move from Troy to the Beaver Farm wasn't just a change of address—it represented the dividing line between childhood abundance and leaner times, much like that natural ridge separates Ohio's flat glaciated plains from the rolling Appalachian foothills.
Meanwhile, the skies above Highland County filled with excitement as Cloverbud 4-H members embraced aviation-themed activities at their recent day camp. While these youngsters were soaring with imagination, Fayette County EMS reported handling 1,090 runs last quarter with impressive response times averaging under two minutes. Commissioners also approved a new body scanner for the county jail and improved emergency communications with a high-band paging antenna—practical upgrades that keep our community both safe and forward-moving.

🏡 A family's move to Highland County marked the end of abundance. In 1962, Jim Thompson's family faced major transitions including his mother's thyroid illness and significantly leaner Christmases than they were accustomed to. The family's relocation from Troy involved a challenging journey with an overloaded U-Haul trailer that their Chevy sedan barely managed to pull up the steep farm lane. Their new home, the Beaver Farm, sat on the northwestern side of Ohio's Terminal Moraine, the geological line dividing Ohio's flat glaciated region from the Appalachian foothills. Thompson recalls crying as they left Troy behind, marking an emotional end to his childhood home.
✈️ Young 4-H Cloverbuds soared to new heights at flight-themed camp. The Premier Showmen 4-H Club Cloverbud members enjoyed a day of hands-on learning at Highland County Cloverbud Day Camp on July 11. Activities included special airplane demonstrations, traditional camp line dances, and creating airplane crafts they could "ride" in. The fun-filled day offered valuable opportunities for youth to explore aviation concepts while building friendships and creating memories. Throughout the event, laughter and discovery took flight as children experienced the joy of 4-H through active play and creative projects.
🚑 Fayette County EMS reports slight decrease in second-quarter runs. In other business, commissioners approved the purchase of a $180,856 body scanner for the county jail, to be funded through the jail's commissary fund. The new scanner will provide more comprehensive scans of individuals with only minor temporary wall modifications needed for installation.
