Fayette County • July 9, 2025
Good morning, Fayette County. The height of summer brings bittersweet moments to our community this week. Hillsboro has lost one of its stalwarts with the passing of David Brinson, whose 73 years were marked by dedication to family and community. The outdoorsman and Ford retiree leaves behind nearly 55 years of marriage memories with his wife Debra, two daughters, and four grandchildren who will carry forward his legacy of service.
Meanwhile, literacy efforts are blooming thanks to Merchants National Bank's generous contribution to Altrusa International's reading initiatives throughout Highland County. And nothing says July quite like fresh sweetcorn, which has finally arrived at the Wednesday Farmers Market alongside local beef, homemade treats, and handcrafted goods. The mid-week market runs from 3-6 p.m. in the TSC parking lot, offering the perfect opportunity to stock up on summer's bounty before the weekend.

ποΈ Beloved family man David Brinson leaves behind a legacy of service. The 73-year-old Hillsboro resident passed away unexpectedly at home on July 5, 2025, after retiring from Ford Motor Company and finding joy in driving for FRS in Highland County. An outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, and truck-pulling, David was married to Debra for nearly 55 years and cherished his two daughters and four grandchildren. A celebration of his life will be held at a later date, with Turner & Son Funeral Home handling arrangements.
π Local bank boosts literacy with generous donation to Altrusa International. Merchants National Bank provided funds to support Altrusa's community reading initiatives throughout Highland County. The donation helps Altrusa provide books to every K-5 student in the county, KAMP Dovetail campers, and various other local groups. Club members hope to expand their book donations to include preschools and middle schools as needs arise. Altrusa International of Highland County expressed gratitude for Merchants National Bank's continued community support.
