Good morning, Fayette County. Behind the celebratory backdrop of upcoming Independence Day festivities lies a sobering reminder of community vigilance. As Washington Court House Police investigate serious allegations against 34-year-old Matthew Hazelip, who now faces first-degree felony rape charges, local authorities continue their critical work protecting our most vulnerable residents—a stark counterpoint to the vibrant community gatherings planned for the holiday weekend.

Speaking of community spirit, last weekend's Picnic at the Park drew over 250 residents to Eyman Park, where 20+ organizations showcased resources amid games and refreshments. The successful event kicks off a summer of connection, with a free Splash Bash coming July 31. Meanwhile, prepare for a dazzling Independence Day as the county lights up with fireworks at the fairgrounds (July 3) and in Jeffersonville (July 4), alongside American Legion's "Red-White-&-Boogie" celebration—just remember the new ordinance limiting consumer fireworks to specific hours.
