Good morning, Fayette County. The mercury is about to climb into dangerous territory this weekend, with temperatures soaring to a scorching 97°F by Monday. The National Weather Service isn't mincing words with their extreme heat watch—this combination of heat and humidity poses serious health risks that call for plenty of water, loose clothing, and as much time as possible in air-conditioned spaces. While the thermometer climbs outside, at least there's a cool oasis of activity waiting at Carnegie Library.

From charm bracelets for young readers to tech help for adults struggling with their smartphones, the library's summer programming offers something for every age group. Meanwhile, the international tensions between Iran and Israel have hit home for at least one local resident—OSU professor Farnaz Maleky, who faces the heartbreaking reality of being unable to reach family members in Tehran since Tuesday, bringing a distant conflict uncomfortably close to our community.

🇮🇷 Iranian professor in Ohio desperately tries reaching family in Tehran. Farnaz Maleky, who teaches at Ohio State University, has been unable to contact relatives since Tuesday amid escalating Israel-Iran conflict. Despite efforts to connect with local Iranian community groups for support, she reports receiving no responses to her outreach. Maleky expressed heartbreak that her U.S. tax dollars might fund strikes against her homeland, while revealing her family refused to evacuate Tehran despite dangers. She hopes for peace, renewed nuclear negotiations, and that central Ohio Iranians can organize to discourage U.S. involvement in the conflict.
