Fayette County • April 1, 2025
Good morning, Fayette County. Mother Nature flexed her muscles Sunday night, leaving Fayette County bearing the brunt of Ohio's power outages with over 1,000 homes in the dark. The powerful storm system that swept through spawned multiple tornado warnings near Jeffersonville and forced closures on Interstate 71 and US 62 North as power lines tumbled. While meteorologists work to confirm those reported twisters, residents are picking up the pieces from yet another spring weather event.
From storms to adorable farm animals, "Thelma and Louise" β the charming lambs from OSU Extension β delighted children at Carnegie Library's Little Wigglers storytime last Thursday. Meanwhile, Highland County deputies had their hands full with 147 calls over the weekend, including weapons charges and prowler reports. The current jail population stands at 61 inmates, a reminder of the ongoing challenges our local law enforcement faces while keeping our communities safe.

Other incidents included domestic disturbances, vandalism investigations, and citations for driving under suspension.
β‘ Powerful storm knocks out power to over 1,000 in Fayette County. The Sunday night storm left Fayette County with more power outages than any other Ohio county, while Clinton and Greene counties reported 400+ and 300+ outages respectively. Multiple tornado warnings were issued, with several sightings reported near Jeffersonville, though none have been confirmed by the National Weather Service. The severe weather forced closures on Interstate 71 and US 62 North due to downed poles and power lines. Weather officials will be assessing damage reports to determine if surveys are needed.
