🎨 Young philanthropists

Fayette County • March 28, 2025

Good morning, Fayette County. The next generation of philanthropists is making waves at Greenfield Elementary, where fifth-graders shattered records by raising an impressive $1,109 for St. Jude through their annual art auction. These young artists aren't just creating masterpieces – they're creating meaningful change, having channeled nearly $3,000 toward various charities over the past three years. Their creative compassion mirrors the broader community spirit evident in the Hillsboro and Greenfield Rotary Clubs' phenomenal $166,303 fundraising achievement during the annual Radio-Telethon.

While residents open their hearts and wallets for neighbors in need, the Highland County land bank is taking decisive action against neglected properties. By purchasing tax lien certificates for seven derelict sites with delinquencies ranging from $168 to a staggering $8,432, officials are addressing community eyesores and potential hazards. The strategy provides property owners one year to settle their debts before potential foreclosure – a practical approach to revitalizing abandoned properties while advancing brownfield remediation projects throughout the county.

🎨 Fifth-graders raise record $1,109 for St. Jude through art auction. Greenfield Elementary students surpassed previous fundraising totals in the third year of their "Art for a Cause" event. The auction, which featured original artwork created by the fifth-graders, was conducted on the school's Facebook page earlier in March. Over the past three years, students have raised nearly $3,000 for various charities including the Highland County Homeless Shelter, Highland County Humane Society, and a local student battling leukemia. Art teacher William Roller expressed pride in both the students and the community for making the initiative a success.
