Good morning, Fairfield County. October brings a taste of Wisconsin to Central Ohio as Culver's prepares to open its fifth local outpost in New Albany. The beloved chain—famous for those sizzling ButterBurgers on buttery buns and fresh-made frozen custard—continues its impressive expansion from humble 1984 beginnings to 800 locations across 25 states. For the uninitiated, there's something magical about dipping those signature crinkle-cut fries into a candy-filled Concrete Mixer that simply screams "comfort food perfection."

While new restaurants rise, other retail stories show struggles beneath the surface. At Home's bankruptcy filing means 26 stores nationwide will close by month's end, though central Ohio's three locations appear safe for now. Meanwhile, Sunday's scattered storms brought brief downpours and gusty winds to the region, a much milder weather event than Saturday's conditions—giving residents a brief meteorological respite as we settle into autumn.

🏠 At Home files for bankruptcy amid tariffs and slowing consumer spending. The Texas-based home goods retailer plans to close 26 "underperforming" stores by September 30, though its three Central Ohio locations in Reynoldsburg, Hilliard, and near Polaris appear safe for now. Burdened by nearly $2 billion in debt, the company has secured $200 million in funding to keep remaining stores operational during bankruptcy proceedings. CEO Brad Weston cited the "impact of tariffs" and "an increasingly dynamic trade environment" as key challenges facing the retailer. Additional store closures may follow as the restructuring process continues.
