Good morning, Fairfield County. Mother Nature flexed her muscles Wednesday evening as fierce winds swept through central Ohio, leaving more than 36,000 AEP customers suddenly plunged into darkness. The storm's fury hit Franklin County particularly hard, with 13,000 households experiencing the unsettling reality of modern life without electricity. Thankfully, utility crews worked through the night, reducing that number to about 6,700 by Thursday morning.

While power restoration continues, this weather event serves as a timely reminder about emergency preparedness. AEP Ohio officials urge residents to assemble emergency kits with essentials like flashlights, batteries, and non-perishable food. They also emphasize critical safety measures: always treat downed lines as dangerous, stay clear of them, and remember that generators require proper ventilation to prevent the silent danger of carbon monoxide. Sometimes the most important lessons come when we least expect them.
