🎣 Gone fishing

Fairfield County • June 5, 2025

Good morning, Fairfield County. Trophy fish are lurking beneath the surface of north central Ohio's lakes, waiting for local anglers to test their skills. With Clear Fork Reservoir offering some of the state's best largemouth bass fishing and Pleasant Hill Reservoir teeming with crappie, our region has become a fisherman's paradise. The timing couldn't be betterβ€”Free Fishing Days arrive June 14-15, giving everyone a chance to cast a line without purchasing the otherwise affordable $25 annual license.

Meanwhile, eyes turn skyward as Canadian wildfire smoke drifts high above central Ohio, potentially affecting our air quality as a frontal system moves through later this week. The situation brings a somber reminder of connections that transcend borders, much like the local story of two Mifflin Township officers wounded during what began as a routine traffic stop. Both officers are receiving medical care, with one already released as the investigation continues.

🎣 North central Ohio lakes beckon anglers with trophy fishing opportunities. The Ohio Department of Natural Resources highlights excellent spots for catching yellow perch, largemouth bass, and crappie throughout the region's public waters. Clear Fork Reservoir stands out as one of the state's premier largemouth bass locations, while Pleasant Hill Reservoir offers exceptional crappie fishing. Residents can fish without a license during Free Fishing Days on June 14-15, and youth under 16 always fish free. With a resident license costing just $25 annually, fishing remains an accessible outdoor activity with plentiful resources available through the HuntFish OH mobile app.

πŸ”₯ Canadian wildfire smoke threatens Ohio air quality this week. Smoke from wildfires burning in Canada has been detected at altitudes above 20,000 feet, causing hazy skies across central Ohio. A frontal system moving through the region later in the week could pull this smoke closer to ground level, potentially degrading air quality. Minnesota, Iowa, and Wisconsin are already experiencing reduced air quality as the system moves eastward. While current projections suggest moderate impacts for Ohio as rain and storms arrive Thursday and Friday, the 10 Weather Impact team continues monitoring the situation.
