Good morning, Fairfield County. Summer vibes are arriving early as the Hocking Hills Canoe Livery kicks off its 2024 season with a splash. The veteran-owned destination is introducing luxurious "River Recliner Tubes" designed for ultimate relaxation on the water, perfect for those lazy summer days we're all dreaming about. Meanwhile, as one waterway prepares for recreation, another fights for survival – Lake Logan's newly formed association is working diligently to address silting issues threatening the beloved waterway, with restoration efforts underway following successful dam repairs completed earlier this year.

Family fun is just around the corner at Winchester Trail Elementary's Spring Fest on May 1. For $20 per family, the event promises bounce houses, activities, and the tantalizing aromas of Guelaguetza Street Food and Fine Smoke BBQ food trucks. It's the perfect opportunity to welcome the season while supporting a local school – just remember parents need to stay with their children throughout the festivities.

🌊 Lake Logan Association fights to save beloved waterway from silting. The newly formed group held its first annual meeting to address urgent restoration needs for Lake Logan. President Stuart Bruny highlighted their achievements since organizing 18 months ago, including securing dam repairs completed in January 2024. The association's three primary objectives include restoring dam gate functionality, improving vegetation mitigation, and implementing necessary dredging. With the original dredging site no longer viable, members are exploring alternative solutions before the lake's recreational areas are further diminished by expanding wetland features.

In a quirk of scheduling that baseball fans will appreciate, these same teams will face off again Monday—giving the Panthers an immediate shot at revenge on the diamond.Pickerington Central's bats came alive in an 18-1 demolition of Groveport-Madison, moving the Tigers to 5-3 on the season. The Cruisers, now 1-7, will try to regroup against a winless Harvest Prep squad on Thursday, while Central looks to keep their momentum rolling against powerhouse Badin (8-3).

Millersport Lakers turned Berne Union into a launching pad Wednesday, rocketing to a 16-5 victory in league action. The Lakers improved to an impressive 10-2 while the Rockets fell to 6-5, proving that sometimes lakes can indeed overpower rockets in the natural order of softball.Pickerington Central delivered a masterclass in dominance, shutting out Reynoldsburg 22-0 in a game that was over before it started. The Tigers improved to 7-4 while the Raiders continued their quest for win number one, falling to 0-13 in what's becoming a season-long hibernation.Lincoln Lions roared past Pickerington North 12-4, extending the Panthers' struggles to a 2-6 record. The Lions improved to 8-5, proving that in this particular food chain, felines feast on panthers.Fisher Catholic Irish blessed Wellington School with an 18-1 defeat that ended mercifully early. The Irish improved to 6-4 while the Jaguars dropped to 1-4, learning the hard lesson that there's nothing lucky about facing Fisher Catholic on the diamond.

John H. Hoyt

John H. "Jack" Hoyt, a 92-year-old retired business executive, passed away on April 10, 2025, in Lancaster, Ohio. He is survived by his wife Carol of 70 years, five children and their partners, eleven grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren, and two brothers. A Korean War veteran who served in the Army, Jack earned degrees from the University of Hartford and Roger Williams University before embarking on a 54-year career in business management. After living in Connecticut, Rhode Island, and Florida, he settled in Ohio, where he continued to enjoy watching his beloved UConn Huskies women's basketball team.

Sheryl Lynne "Sherie" Thomas, 61, of Largo, Florida, passed away on April 11, 2025, having been born in Columbus, Ohio in 1964. She was a free spirit who enjoyed the outdoors, loved football, and had a special affection for animals, particularly cats. Sherie is survived by her sister and brother-in-law, nephews, a great-niece, several aunts, and other family members and friends. Funeral services will be held on April 18, 2025, at Pfeifer Woodyard Funeral Chapel in Reynoldsburg, Ohio, followed by burial at Newark Memorial Gardens.
