🏝️ Basement getaway

Fairfield County • March 7, 2025

Good morning, Fairfield County. Just when you thought government buildings couldn't get less exciting, Elon Musk's Department of Government Efficiency has put Ohio federal offices on the chopping block. The cost-cutting initiative has expanded beyond its initial targets to include facilities in Cincinnati, Fairborn, and Middleburg Heights – proving that even bureaucracy isn't immune to the current downsizing trend.

Meanwhile, in the "why settle for a vacation when you can live in one" department, a Sunbury mansion has transformed its basement into a full-blown Margaritaville paradise. Complete with painted beach landscapes and an actual island shanty, this $1.2 million property is making waves on Zillow Gone Wild. In more heartwarming news, Lancaster's Harcum House is just $57,000 shy of its $1 million fundraising milestone – a testament to our community's commitment to supporting vulnerable families when they need it most.

🏢 Federal offices in Ohio face closure as DOGE expands cost-cutting. The Department of Government Efficiency, led by Elon Musk, has added more Ohio federal offices to its list for termination or consolidation. Initially targeting 10 locations, DOGE has now expanded its reach to include additional facilities in Cincinnati, Fairborn, and Middleburg Heights. The changes include lease terminations, office closures, and relocations to federal spaces, with projected savings ranging from $30,295 to over $7.5 million per location. While the exact number of affected employees remains unclear, thousands of government workers have already been forced out during Trump's presidency.

While the 5,000-square-foot house appears conventional from the outside, its lower level is completely decorated as a tropical island getaway. The basement features painted beach landscapes, a giant parrot holding a cocktail, and even an actual island shanty built inside, making the carpet blend seamlessly with the "sandy beach."
