πŸ• Pizza peace treaty

Fairfield County • February 19, 2025

Good morning, Fairfield County. In the world of pizza debates, the age-old rivalry between New York and Detroit styles usually ends in a stalemate. But Tony & Enzo's, helmed by an unlikely duo of a former attorney and executive chef, is bringing peace to the pizza wars with both styles under one Hamilton Road roof. Their Gahanna migration from Zanesville means Columbus-area residents no longer have to choose sides in this delicious dispute.

While some are busy slicing pies, others are busy changing lives. The Dave Thomas Foundation just hit a remarkable milestone: 15,000 foster children placed in forever homes through their Wendy's Wonderful Kids program. Speaking of transformative changes, Canal Winchester schools are securing their future too, with a clever financial maneuver that'll bring $1.3 million yearly for improvements without increasing resident taxes - now that's what we call a win-win.

πŸ• Two-style pizza powerhouse finds new home in Gahanna, Ohio. Tony & Enzo's, known for both New York and Detroit-style pizzas, has relocated from Zanesville to a new storefront on Hamilton Road. The unique concept, offering both regional pizza styles under one roof, is run by an unlikely duo - a former attorney and an executive chef. Beyond their signature pies, the mostly carryout spot serves wings, subs, and authentic Italian desserts like cannoli and cheesecake. Though seating is limited, the move brings their distinctive dual-style pizzas closer to Columbus's hungry masses.

🏫 Canal Winchester schools secure $1.3 million yearly for vital improvements. The school board approved a 1.5 mill permanent improvement levy that won't increase taxes for residents, thanks to an offset in bond millage rates. The funds will support critical infrastructure needs, including replacing 13 aging buses and upgrading technology, roofing, and paving. The district also selected Schorr Architects for a major facilities expansion project, which includes an 800-seat performing arts center and enhanced athletic facilities. Phase Two of the master plan, projected for 6-10 years from now, will require voter support for a new junior high building.

The Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption reached this achievement through its Wendy's Wonderful Kids program over two decades of dedicated work. Ohio, the first state to fully implement the initiative, accounts for over 10% of these successful adoptions. Despite this progress, the foundation's CEO Rita Soronen emphasizes there's more work ahead, noting that 20,000 children age out of foster care annually without finding families.
