๐Ÿ‘ต Caregiving champions

Fairfield County • February 7, 2025

Good morning, Fairfield County. In the quiet corners of Central Ohio, an army of unsung heroes is caring for our aging neighbors, with a staggering 38 people turning 60 every single day in Franklin County alone. Michelle Messer's story of tending to her cancer-surviving father reminds us that behind every caregiver's tired smile lies both profound challenges and unexpected rewards.

Meanwhile, the political tug-of-war over Ohio's freshly-minted marijuana law continues to spark debate, as Senator Huffman pushes for reduced THC levels and plant limits. But don't tell that to the Warren Warriors basketball squad - they're too busy making history with their 12-game winning streak, dropping three-pointers like they're going out of style and leaving the Athens team wondering what hit them in that 76-33 stunner.

๐ŸŒฟ Ohio Republican pushes to slash home-grown marijuana and increase taxes. State Senator Steve Huffman's new bill aims to reduce THC levels in recreational marijuana from 90% to 70% and cut home cultivation limits from 12 to 6 plants. The proposed legislation would merge medical and recreational programs while hiking the marijuana tax from 10% to 15%. All tax revenue would now flow to the state's general fund, abandoning the current system that supports social equity and addiction programs. Democratic opponents argue the changes disrespect voters who approved the original law in 2023.
