Good morning, Dublin. A stunning new chapter in Columbus' skyline has arrived with the opening of Astra Rooftop, bringing Spanish-inspired cuisine and specialty cocktails eight stories above downtown. This swanky addition to the Marriott's AC Hotel offers everything from flaming Tomahawk steaks to churro donuts, perfect for those summer evenings when you're craving both altitude and atmosphere between now and 1am on weekends.
Meanwhile, the humble wheat in your sandwich has quite the story to tell. Ohio farmers are battling fungus, unpredictable weather, and agricultural challenges with cutting-edge science that increases yields annually. And speaking of long journeys, the Franklin County Fair celebrates its 173rd anniversary this week in Hilliard, continuing a tradition that began in 1851 and has survived multiple relocations and even devastating fires to become the summer staple we enjoy today.

🍹 Columbus skyline gets swanky new Spanish-inspired rooftop bar. Astra Rooftop opened this week on the eighth floor of the Marriott's AC Hotel in downtown Columbus. The indoor-outdoor venue features a Spanish-inspired menu developed by One Hospitality's Culinary Director Branden Weigel, offering everything from shareable Flaming Tomahawk steak to Churro Donuts for dessert. Specialty cocktails like the Banana Mai Tai complement the food offerings, with mocktail options available as well. Astra is open Sunday through Thursday from 4-11pm and Friday and Saturday from 4pm-1am.
🌾 Ohio wheat faces epic journey before becoming your sandwich bread. Farmers recently gathered at Ohio State University's Small Grains Field Day to learn strategies for combating fungus, pests, and changing weather patterns. Researchers are developing improved wheat varieties that increase yields by over 1 bushel per acre annually, while also exploring barley's comeback potential for the brewing industry. Despite challenges from shrinking planting windows and more intense rainfall, local wheat growers benefit from cutting-edge agricultural science, including a network of hyperlocal weather stations being developed across Ohio. The state's soft red winter wheat remains crucial for cookies, cakes, and other everyday foods we enjoy.
🎡 Franklin County Fair's 173-year journey continues this week in Hilliard. Since its 1851 debut in Franklinton, the fair has moved several times—from Franklin Park to Driving Park to Grove City—before finding its permanent home in Hilliard in 1918. Despite challenges including fires in 1978 and 2000, the fair has thrived, with record attendance following WWII when crowds exceeded 22,000. Today's fairgoers can enjoy agricultural competitions, rides, games, food, and performances at the expanded fairgrounds, which gained an additional 44 acres in 1986.
