Good morning, Dublin. The Ohio punk scene just got a jolt of energy with local band Jocks releasing their debut album "Speedbuster," described as "Devo on crack" with a distinctly Buckeye State attitude. While these musicians are embracing musical chaos, a different kind of transformation is happening in Hilliard, where the 27-acre TruePointe development is evolving from office park to vibrant mixed-use community, complete with apartments, retail spaces, and an impressive 500-tree landscaping project.
Meanwhile, the theatrical magic happening behind the scenes deserves a spotlight of its own. Production manager Michael Trakas-Lawlor is busy orchestrating everything from lighting to sound for OYO Dance Company's upcoming Carmina Burana, working to create those seamless theatrical experiences where audiences forget there's anyone backstage at all. It's a reminder that sometimes the most impressive work happens just out of view.

🎸 Ohio punks Jocks embrace chaos on their debut album 'Speedbuster'. The four-piece band, formed by musicians juggling multiple projects, blends herky-jerky synths with serrated riffs for a sound they describe as "Devo on crack." Unlike contemporaries in the egg punk scene, frontman Nate Wilder opts for high-concept storytelling over simplistic lyrics, tackling topics from political assassinations to Dostoevsky's theories. Despite their ambitious approach, the band maintains a refreshingly casual attitude toward their music, with Wilder noting, "We're from Ohio, and so it's just like, who gives a shit?"
🏙️ Hilliard office park transforms into vibrant mixed-use community. The 27-acre TruePointe development is taking shape with its first 360 apartments opening this summer, followed by Kenneth's Hair Salons moving into a renovated office building. Advance Drainage Systems will relocate its headquarters to a new 100,000-square-foot office building by September, while retail spaces for Drunch Eatery+Bar, Qahwah House, and Yes Sushi are under construction. Two massive parking garages have been completed, and an impressive landscaping project featuring 500 trees will enhance the grounds this summer. The initial phase should be complete by fall 2026, with future phases including a medical office building and development across the street.
🎭 Behind the scenes magic makes theater come alive. Michael Trakas-Lawlor serves as production and stage manager for OYO Dance Company, coordinating everything from lighting to sound for their upcoming production of Carmina Burana. With a theatrical background spanning dance, singing, and directing, Michael approaches his craft with a simple philosophy: create seamless experiences where audiences believe "there is no one backstage making things happen." Despite the demanding nature of stage management, he finds the role deeply rewarding, enjoying the unique perspective of witnessing both performers' choices and audience reactions from the booth. Outside of theater, Michael works with Ohio's first responders and enjoys woodworking, cooking, and traveling to England.
