Good morning, Dublin. The digital age has brought convenience to our fingertips, but it's also delivered new dangers to our doorsteps. An 81-year-old Bowling Green man recently discovered this harsh reality when scammers posing as bail bondsmen convinced him to part with $1,300 before his suspicions finally kicked in. Fortunately, his bank stepped in to freeze the compromised card and is working to recover the stolen funds—a reminder that when someone demands money for a loved one in trouble, verification is your best protection.
In brighter news, West Liberty-Salem has reason to celebrate as three standout students—Owen Barger, Shyanne McClintick, and Ella Vondenhuevel—earned the prestigious Ohio FFA State Degree, marking their exceptional agricultural leadership. Meanwhile, if you're planning air travel, take note: TSA agents nationwide are now enforcing Real ID requirements after a 20-year implementation delay, so look for that star in the corner of your license or bring alternative identification to avoid security headaches.

🚨 Elderly father loses $1,300 in fake bail bond scam. An 81-year-old Bowling Green man was tricked by someone claiming to work for All Ohio Bail Bonds, who demanded payment to release his son from jail. After paying $1,300, the scammer tried to extract another $625 for an ankle monitor, which finally raised the father's suspicions. The victim later discovered his son never needed bail, and fortunately, his bank froze the card and promised to return the stolen funds. Police are investigating the case and plan to issue a subpoena once they receive transaction reports.
🌽 Three West Liberty-Salem students earn prestigious Ohio FFA State Degree. Owen Barger, Shyanne McClintick, and Ella Vondenhuevel received one of the highest honors in the Ohio FFA Association, marking a significant achievement in their agricultural education journey. The State FFA Degree requires at least two years of membership, completion of a Supervised Agricultural Experience, and extensive involvement in FFA programs and service. This recognition represents exceptional leadership and commitment, positioning these students on the path toward the even more selective American FFA Degree. Their success was supported by van driver Ashlee Smith and chaperones Cary Knotts and Kathy Smith.
🪪 Real ID enforcement has finally arrived after a 20-year wait. TSA agents nationwide are now checking for the star in the top right corner of driver's licenses that indicates a Real ID. Travelers without a Real ID can still use passports, passport cards, tribal IDs, or Department of Defense IDs to pass through security. Those with only "legacy IDs" will face additional screening, which may vary depending on how busy the checkpoint is. If you're between licenses, you'll need both your temporary paper and your old license to fly.
