Good morning, Dev Test County. After nearly a decade of visionary leadership, the Dallas Arts District is preparing for a changing of the guard. Lily Cabatu Weiss, the force behind consecutive USA Today #1 rankings and the popular Signature Block Party Series, has announced her January 2026 retirement—capping an incredible four-decade journey that began at Booker T. Washington High School in 1978.

Around town, accessibility is the watchword. Councilman Maxie Johnson has flipped the script on city services by opening a District 4 Community Office right in Oak Cliff's Glendale Shopping Center, bringing government directly to residents. And for those seeking authentic Mexican flavors, the Reyes family has filled a culinary void with their new taco shop near Bishop Arts District. Their Taco Perron with ribeye and cactus might just be your next weekend obsession—complete with house-made aguas frescas and a welcoming patio perfect for family gatherings.

🏙️ Dallas councilman brings government to the people, not vice versa. Maxie Johnson opened a District 4 Community Office in the heart of Oak Cliff, making city services accessible without residents traveling downtown. Located in the Glendale Shopping Center, the office partners with police, code compliance, and transit authorities to improve response times in an area known for high crime rates. Johnson's team of education professionals aims to tackle community issues directly, offering resources for youth and planning educational programming. "We brought city government to the community and we made it so accessible," says Johnson, who believes addressing educational inequity is key to reducing poverty and violence.
