Good morning, Dev Test County. A wave of grief has swept through Lincoln High School as the community mourns 17-year-old state champion hurdler Roy Hughes, who passed away unexpectedly after track practice Friday. The talented athlete, found unresponsive at home, had recently celebrated winning the 4A state title in the 300 hurdles. As his family awaits autopsy results, classmates prepare to honor his memory with a balloon release – a poignant reminder of how quickly life can change.

Across Texas, classrooms are undergoing their own transformation as a new law bans cell phones during instruction time, aiming to boost academic performance and reduce distractions. The education reform comes as Dallas authorities investigate a tragic early morning shooting that left three people dead on Dudley Street Saturday. Police continue seeking information about the incident that claimed the life of 53-year-old Latit Pradhan and two others.

📱 Texas schools ban cell phones to combat classroom distractions. Starting this year, a new bipartisan law prohibits students from using mobile devices during class time, allowing districts to customize implementation details. Representative Jared Patterson believes removing phones will restore discipline, reduce cyberbullying, and improve academic performance. Though initial enforcement may present challenges, Patterson expects students will adjust quickly, emphasizing that "generations of Texans grew up without instant access" to phones. The legislation is part of broader education reforms that include increased teacher pay and potential elimination of standardized testing.
