💔 Star athlete dies suddenly days before senior year begins. Roy Hughes, a 17-year-old state champion from Lincoln High School in Dallas, was found unresponsive at his home after track practice on Friday. His mother told FOX 4 News that Hughes went to sleep after practice and never woke up. The talented hurdler had won the 4A state title in the 300 hurdles earlier this year. An autopsy is being performed to determine the cause of death as the community prepares for a balloon release in his honor.
📱 Texas schools ban cell phones to combat classroom distractions. Starting this year, a new bipartisan law prohibits students from using mobile devices during class time, allowing districts to customize implementation details. Representative Jared Patterson believes removing phones will restore discipline, reduce cyberbullying, and improve academic performance. Though initial enforcement may present challenges, Patterson expects students will adjust quickly, emphasizing that "generations of Texans grew up without instant access" to phones. The legislation is part of broader education reforms that include increased teacher pay and potential elimination of standardized testing.
🔫 Three dead in Dallas after early morning shooting spree. Police believe 53-year-old Latit Pradhan shot two people known to him before he was also shot and wounded around 2:10 a.m. Saturday. Pradhan later died at the hospital while the two victims were pronounced dead at the scene on Dudley Street. Authorities have not identified the other victims or revealed their relationship to Pradhan. Police are still investigating the motive behind the shooting and have asked anyone with information to contact Detective Fehrenbach.
