Good morning, Dev Test County. The age-old relationship between parking and progress is shifting beneath our feet. Dallas officials are advancing a bold plan to slash parking requirements citywide, potentially transforming underused asphalt into affordable housing opportunities. The proposal would eliminate parking minimums near transit hubs and for smaller establishments, with Councilmember Chad West noting the direct connection between parking regulations and housing affordability.
Meanwhile, history and hospitality are blending beautifully in downtown's revival. A 1920s Planters Peanut Shop is transforming into an upscale cocktail destination while preserving its vintage marble floors and painted advertisements. And tonight, the country music world celebrates inclusivity pioneers at Frisco's new Hall Park Hotel, honoring the legacy of Dallas's own Charley Pride alongside contemporary stars like Grapevine native Post Malone, who's up for five ACM Awards at Thursday's main ceremony.

🚗 Dallas inches closer to slashing parking requirements citywide. City officials agreed to advance a plan that would reduce or eliminate parking minimums in many areas, potentially freeing up space for more housing and development. The amended proposal includes zero parking requirements near transit stations, downtown, and for small bars and restaurants under 2,500 square feet. For areas near single-family homes, commercial spaces would need one parking space per 500 square feet. "Parking and cost of housing goes hand in hand," said Councilmember Chad West, supporting reforms that could make housing more affordable.
🍸 Historic Dallas building transforms into upscale cocktail lounge this spring. A vintage 1920s building at 1519 Main Street in downtown Dallas will soon become an elegant lounge featuring high-end cocktails from acclaimed mixologist Brian Van Flandern. Hospitality Alliance, led by Kevin Lillis, is preserving original features like marble floors and historic painted advertisements from the building's days as a Planters Peanut Shop. The two-story space, located across from the Joule Dallas hotel, will offer a sophisticated, low-key atmosphere focused exclusively on creating a premium cocktail experience when it opens in late spring.
🎵 Country music honors Charley Pride's trailblazing legacy tonight. The Academy of Country Music's "I'm Just Me" celebration recognizes inclusivity pioneers like Lionel Richie, Shaboozey, and Fort Worth's Opal Lee. Hosted by Mickey Guyton, the event will stream live on Prime Video from Frisco's new Hall Park Hotel. Despite facing discrimination throughout his career, Pride, who lived in North Dallas until his death in 2020, made legendary contributions to country music. The main ACM Awards, where Grapevine's Post Malone is nominated for five awards, will follow on Thursday with Reba McEntire hosting.
