Good morning, Dev Test County. Dreams of entrepreneurship are getting a $90,000 boost in Akron as the city joins an elite group of seven municipalities selected for the Small Business Boost Initiative. Mayor Shammas Malik's emphasis that these ventures represent "the heart of our community" highlights the program's dual focus on helping entrepreneurs manage both business growth and personal finances – a powerful combination for sustainable success in our local economy.
Meanwhile, mark your calendars for February 2026 when rock legends Maná bring their Grammy-winning sounds to Detroit for a historic first performance. While concert excitement builds, local businesses are dealing with less harmonious situations – a Shell station manager discovered an employee allegedly helping themselves to merchandise and alcohol during shifts, while a Cleveland woman faces charges after a $311 Walmart shopping spree that apparently skipped the checkout line. Perhaps everyone could use a financial counseling session?

🛒 Employee suspected of stealing over $500 from gas station. A Shell manager reported a worker allegedly took merchandise and drank alcohol while on duty. The suspicious activity came to light when the manager found the store locked with bags of merchandise stashed behind the counter. The employee claimed the items were expired and destined for trash, but management noted expired items would normally be returned to distributors for credit. In a separate incident, a Cleveland woman was caught shoplifting $311 worth of merchandise from Walmart and faces charges for theft and using criminal tools.
