Good morning, Darke County. A construction mishap in Vandalia turned Saturday evening into an unexpected adventure for residents when a gas leak forced the evacuation of three homes. Emergency crews sprang into action, blocking roads and working with CenterPoint Energy to secure the area—a stark reminder that even weekend home improvement projects can take dramatic turns. Meanwhile, quick-thinking responders at Otterbein Senior Life Community rescued a woman from a pond Friday evening, demonstrating how everyday heroes emerge when we least expect them.

As winter settles in, Troy residents have something festive to anticipate: Cheer on Cherry Street returns November 28, transforming an ordinary bottle shop basement into a holiday wonderland. With themed cocktails, festive fare, and elaborate "North Pole" decorations, this popular pop-up promises to brighten the season. The streamlined reservation system might be new, but the 90-minute slots of holiday cheer continue a cherished local tradition worth marking on your calendar.

Drive, prompting emergency response around 6:45 p.m. Vandalia officials blocked off Dixie Drive between Crestwood Hills Drive and East Alkaline Springs Road while crews worked to clamp the leak and locate the valve. CenterPoint Energy personnel collaborated with local emergency officials to secure the area, eventually reopening the roads.
