Good morning, Cuyahoga County. After 40 years of silence, the elegant five-story Warner & Swasey factory in Midtown Cleveland is finally getting its second act. The historic 1905 structure has been purchased by Pennrose for $2.2 million, launching a $52 million transformation that will breathe new life into this industrial sleeping giant with 140 mixed-income apartments and commercial spaces. This architectural resurrection aims to catalyze development along East 55th Street, preserving our industrial heritage while creating new possibilities.

Meanwhile, Cleveland's cultural calendar is absolutely exploding this weekend. From Marc Rebillet's funky performances at the Agora to the unprecedented gathering of soul legends Gladys Knight, Chaka Khan, Patti LaBelle, and Stephanie Mills on one stage at Rocket Arena, music lovers are facing delightful scheduling dilemmas. The sonic feast continues with local heroes Mr. Gnome, country star Lainey Wilson, French electronic pioneers Air, and Tyler Childers all performing across a packed five-day stretch.

☕️ What's Brewing Locally

Brewing Locally Image

🏭 Cleveland's historic factory gets new life after 40 years vacant. Pennrose has purchased the Warner & Swasey site in Midtown Cleveland for $2.2 million, marking a pivotal step toward transforming the abandoned 194,000-square-foot machine tool factory. The $52 million redevelopment will create approximately 140 mixed-income apartments and 22,000 square feet of commercial space, preserving the elegant five-story structure built in 1905 while demolishing the deteriorated foundry section for parking. After years of planning, this project aims to revitalize the East 55th Street corridor and serve as a catalyst for neighborhood development in an area that has seen recent growth nearby.

🛡️ Congressman Miller's National Guard call ignites fierce Cleveland backlash. His proposal to deploy military forces in Cleveland—a city he doesn't even represent—is being condemned as a dangerous political stunt by local leaders. Critics argue the move would militarize streets where people currently feel safe attending sports games and visiting downtown. The op-ed author contends real crime solutions require community investment in education, healthcare, and living wages rather than shows of force. Miller's critics believe his rhetoric divides communities when unity is desperately needed to address complex social issues affecting all areas, not just cities.
