Good morning, Athens County. Summer brings a welcome return of community nourishment as Good Works launches its annual Summer Lunch program next month. The free meals, served Monday through Thursday from noon to 12:30pm, will welcome both children and adults to their Luhrig Road property—continuing a tradition of summer sustenance that's been warming hearts and filling bellies since 2009.
Literature lovers have a special treat awaiting them this Bloomsday as Virginia Woolf's "Mrs. Dalloway" returns to the Athena Cinema on June 16. The free screening honors the legacy of Dr. Carey Snyder, with attendees encouraged to don their finest Roaring 20's attire for the occasion. Meanwhile, Ohio University continues its forward momentum with trustees approving a $968.4 million operating budget for the coming fiscal year, while celebrating increased enrollment numbers and exciting developments in aging research that position the institution as a leader in this critical field.

🍽️ Free summer lunches return to Athens for all ages. Good Works is hosting its annual Summer Lunch program from June 16 to July 30, 2025, at their Luhrig Road property. The community meals will be served Monday through Thursday from noon to 12:30 pm, welcoming both adults and children. Since 2009, the organization has provided nutritious and tasty lunches each summer as a community service. 📚 Virginia Woolf's "Mrs. Dalloway" returns for a special Bloomsday celebration. The Athena Cinema in Athens, Ohio will host a free screening on June 16, 2025, honoring the late Dr. Carey Snyder, an Ohio University English professor and Woolf scholar. Attendees are encouraged to don "Roaring 20's" attire for the 7pm event, which will feature a special themed cocktail. 🏛️ Ohio University trustees tackle budgets, enrollment, and aging research initiatives. The Board approved a $968.4 million operating budget for FY 2026, with 71% directed toward core educational missions. Summer enrollment is trending up nearly 6% from last year, with fall numbers also increasing by about 5%. Trustees reviewed plans to transform the Edison Biotechnology Institute into the Institute for Molecular Medicine and Aging, positioning OU as a leader in healthy aging research. President Gonzalez highlighted recent achievements including military-friendly designations, student research presentations, and new aviation program investments.
