Good morning, Athens County. The remarkable revival of Raccoon Creek stands as a testament to what determined conservation can achieve. Once "nearly lifeless," this waterway now teems with over 90 fish species, earning it the prestigious designation as Ohio's 16th Scenic Riverβ€”and the first in Southeast Ohio. You can join the celebration at the Raccoon Jamboree on June 14 at Lake Hope State Park, where everything from canoeing to wildlife activities awaits.

Mark your calendars for two more community gatherings that showcase Athens' vibrant spirit. The Athens City Commission on Disabilities welcomes everyone to their monthly meeting on June 18, offering a space where accessibility concerns can be heard and addressed. Looking further ahead, the hills of Southeastern Ohio will come alive with the sounds of Appalachia when the Happy Hollow Hootenanny returns to Nelsonville's Snow Fork Event Center in September 2025, bringing together musicians and culture enthusiasts for a weekend of connection and celebration.
