Good morning, Athens County. While the federal funding tap may have temporarily run dry for Athens' electric vehicle charging projects, the spirit of environmental innovation is flowing strong elsewhere in our community. The Stevens Literacy Center's Green Project Camp is already planting seeds for 2025, offering children ages 7-15 the chance to dive into environmental conservation through hands-on activities, field trips, and literacy-based learning across three distinct programs. Registration is now open for families looking to nurture the next generation of eco-warriors.

Academic excellence continues to flourish at Ohio University, where nearly 50 students have been welcomed into Phi Beta Kappa, America's oldest and most prestigious honor society. This remarkable achievement places these scholars among a select groupโ€”only 10% of graduates from just 10% of U.S. colleges receive this distinction. The honor connects them to a nationwide network of accomplished professionals while celebrating OU's 220-year tradition of educational excellence.

๐ŸŽ“ Elite honor society welcomes nearly 50 new Ohio University members. Phi Beta Kappa, America's oldest and most prestigious academic honor society, recently initiated these high-achieving students who met rigorous academic requirements. Only 10% of U.S. colleges have Phi Beta Kappa chapters, which select just 10% of arts and sciences graduates. Membership offers valuable networking opportunities through a national community of scholars and professionals. The society's emphasis on liberal arts education aligns with Ohio University's tradition of academic excellence dating back to 1804.

๐Ÿ”Œ Federal funding freeze stalls Athens' electric vehicle charging projects. Mayor Steve Patterson revealed that a $16.7 million grant for building charging stations along the Appalachian Highway remains on hold. The city had planned installations at the new fire station, armory building, and other strategic locations throughout Athens. This delay affects approximately 20 municipalities that were collectively expected to create over 250 charging points between Dayton and Athens. Infrastructure for the fire station chargers has already been installed, with electrical connections in place awaiting the stalled federal funds.
