Good morning, Athens County. Behind every Emmy-winning forecast and groundbreaking film lies the magic of hands-on experience. Just ask Marshall McPeek, whose journey from WOUB's campus studios to becoming ABC 6 Columbus' Chief Meteorologist demonstrates how early immersion shapes extraordinary careers. The broadcasting veteran credits his student days at the station that "quickly became my life" for preparing him for everything the industry would throw his way—a sentiment echoed across campus as Russ College engineering students land positions at Alaska Airlines and JP Morgan Chase through similar dedication.

Meanwhile, international cinema continues to transform the historic Athena Theatre during the Athens International Film and Video Festival's 52nd year. This Academy-qualifying event screened an impressive 211 films from 58 countries, creating intimate connections between filmmakers and audiences that larger festivals simply can't match. With students meticulously curating from 2,300 submissions, the festival showcases voices often overlooked by mainstream Hollywood—proving Athens remains a surprising cultural powerhouse.

📺 WOUB shaped meteorologist's career from day one at Ohio University. Marshall McPeek, now ABC 6 Columbus Chief Meteorologist, recalls how the campus station "quickly became my life" during his college years. The 1991 graduate gained extensive experience both on-air and behind the scenes, hosting radio programs, anchoring NewsWatch, and even contributing to NPR's All Things Considered as a student. After positions in Cleveland, Illinois, and elsewhere, McPeek eventually landed in Columbus, where he's now an Emmy award-winning meteorologist. "WOUB prepared us for everything," McPeek credits the station for giving students the hands-on skills needed to succeed in broadcasting.
