After nearly two decades of entertaining moviegoers, the co-owners of the Athena Grand in Athens, Ohio, have announced their decision to close the theater, with its last showings set for January 5. Rick Frame and Mike Little reflected on the theater's journey, recalling the days of running 35-millimeter films on multiple screens and how they've invested profits back into the business to keep ticket prices at just $5. However, a combination of pandemic challenges, competition from a nearby university-owned theater, and ongoing operational difficulties led to the heartbreaking decision. As they prepare for the final curtain call, the duo hopes that a suitable buyer may yet emerge to carry on the beloved establishment's legacy.
