Good morning, Westerville. At 101 years of age, Columbus journalism pioneer Ann Walker witnessed an entire century of history unfold before becoming part of that history herself. The trailblazer, who served in the Carter administration and had a plaza named in her honor on the East side, leaves behind a legacy that stretches from her family home (razed for Interstate 71) to her recent appearance at Columbus Monthly's Inspiring Women event just months before her passing.

October brings a cultural feast to our community with New Vision Dance Company's "Fiesta Tropicale" celebration at the McCoy Center honoring Hispanic Heritage Month through diverse Latin rhythms. Meanwhile, horror enthusiasts are marking their calendars for the 10th anniversary of the Nightmares Film Festival at Gateway Film Center—dubbed the "Cannes of horror"—where 18 feature films and 130 shorts will transform mid-October into what organizers call "summer camp and Christmas morning for horror fans."

📱 Black journalism pioneer Ann Walker leaves behind a century-long legacy. The Columbus trailblazer, who passed away at 101, was recently celebrated at the Columbus Monthly Inspiring Women event in June 2024. Walker served in the Carter administration and was honored with the Ann B. Walker Plaza on Columbus' East side in 2021. Photos capture her remarkable life, from her wedding day with husband Linwood to recent public appearances with city officials. Her family home was razed to make way for Interstate 71, which she believed targeted minority communities.
