Good morning, Westerville. The Ohio State Fair is rolling back into Columbus next week, bringing a delicious dose of summer nostalgia and new adventures. From July 23 to August 3, fairgoers can rock out to Foreigner and T-Pain, sample intriguing concoctions like Moonshine Chicken on a Stick, or simply marvel at the timeless charm of butter sculptures and pig races. It's 12 days of quintessential Midwestern summer packed into one fairground.

While Alum Creek Dam stands as a silent sentinel protecting our communities today, its history tells a fascinating tale of perseverance. First proposed in 1956, the project faced significant opposition until devastating floods in 1959 changed hearts and minds. Construction finally began in the late 1960s after numerous delays, ultimately requiring the relocation of 2,500 graves from six cemeteries before its completion in 1978 – a $46 million investment that now supplies Columbus with up to 37 million gallons of water daily.

🏠 Ohio lawmakers challenge governor's property tax veto decisions. Members of the Ohio House will reconvene on July 21st to review Governor DeWine's 67 line-item vetoes in the state budget, particularly focusing on three property tax changes. The vetoed proposals would have allowed county budget commissions to reduce property taxes when deemed excessive, eliminated the "replacement" tax levy option for schools, and changed tax calculations for school funding. Despite the legislative pushback, DeWine recently appointed a working group to study property tax reform with a 60-day deadline. The governor emphasized the need to balance relief for fixed-income homeowners facing rising property values with maintaining funding for essential services.
