Good morning, Westerville. Nearly a century ago, Columbus stood at a pivotal crossroads in aviation history as the eastern terminal for America's first transcontinental air-rail service. The "Lindbergh Line" promised coast-to-coast travel in just 48 hours—though at $353 one-way (about $6,500 today), it remained a luxury few could afford before eventually evolving into what we know as TWA.

Closer to home, community leaders are demanding action following a tragic Fourth of July shooting that killed one minor and injured five others at a Columbus rental property. Meanwhile, the Statehouse grounds became the site of Independence Day demonstrations as diverse groups rallied under a unified banner protesting recent policies, while the annual Doo-Dah Parade continued its tradition of political satire with colorful displays and street theater.

✈️ Columbus once stood at the crossroads of aviation history. Nearly a century ago, the city served as the eastern terminal for the first transcontinental air-rail passenger service, established by Transcontinental Air Transport in 1929. The innovative "Lindbergh Line," developed by Charles Lindbergh, allowed passengers to travel from New York to Los Angeles in 48 hours by alternating between daytime flights and overnight train journeys. Despite initial public excitement, the service faced challenges including high ticket costs ($353 one-way, equivalent to $6,500 today), accidents, and the 1929 stock market crash, though it eventually evolved into Trans World Airlines (TWA).

🗽 Independence Day protests unite diverse "resistance" against Trump policies. At the Columbus Statehouse, demonstrators rallied under the banner "No War, No Deportations, No Cuts" to protest recent administration actions. Organizer Madison Tracy called it an "umbrella movement" bringing together groups from across the political spectrum. The protest highlighted personal stories, including Liz who marched for her friend recently deported to Laos after living in America since childhood. Meanwhile, the annual Doo-Dah Parade featured political satire including a guillotine display and an inflatable president in a cage.
